This page contains a quick rundown of notable planes of existence.

THE PRIME MATERIAL PLANES

The material plane and all the planes the matter it is composed of. This includes elemental planes, the ethereal plane and the astral. Part of the inner planes. The prime material planes exist separately to outer planes and travel between them requires powerful magic.

THE MATERIAL PLANE

Similar to our Earth. It’s where the humans, elves, dwarves, etc reside.

THE ELEMENTAL PLANES

These inner planes are the most connected to the material plane. They embody the elements the make up the composition of matter. Chiefly among them is the air, earth, fire and water planes. There are also planes for lightning, dust, positivity, negativity and many other minor elements that are too numerous to name.

THE ETHEREAL PLANE

This plane exists in parallel to the material plane. One can think of it as extra space for the material plane. It is often utilized by ghosts, displacer beasts and other such creatures, magical pockets like bags of holding and similar magical effects. The shadow plane is similar, but devoid of light, full of dangerous monsters and can be used as route to travel between the prime material planes.

THE ASTRAL PLANE

The astral plane exists on the outer edge of the inner planes. When travelling to the outer planes, some prefer to project their astral form instead of physically travelling there. Astral projection produces an astral cord that connects one’s astral and physical bodies. If the cord is cut (which is very difficult, but what githyanki swords are designed to do) then the traveller dies. Otherwise, astral projection is considered the safest way to explore the planes.

THE OUTER PLANES

The home of gods, devils and other exotic creatures. Wondrous and often dangerous. Strong magic is need to travel between the inner and outer planes.
